Arts and Crafts that reflect Odisha's rich heritage.

Arts and craft have made Odisha a land of rich and diverse artistic environment. The cultural heritage of Odisha is reflected in its vibrant art forms.  Having a distinct tradition of painting, architecture, sculpture, handicrafts, music, and dance.

Due to the religious of many different rulers, arts, the cultural arts, and crafts of the state underwent too many changes.

1- Pattachitra ( Raghurajpur )-

 

Raghurajpur is a heritage crafts village on Odisha state, 10 kms from Puri and 55 kms from the state capital Bhubaneshwar.There are about a 100 houses in the village and almost everyone is an artisan. They are Pattachitra painters, an art form which dates back to 5 BC. They also make traditional masks, stone idols, paper mache, sculptures, wooden toys.Some of these artists have also won National Awards for their exceptional work.


2. Sand art Puri-

Sand art is a distinctive type of art form that got popularized in Puri and is now a well recognized art all across the world. Among few people who leave their footprints on sand, one maestro of creating gorgeous and innovative sand sculptures is Mr. Sudarshan Pattnaik. One can take a look at his extravaganza creations near the Puri sea beach!



2. Silver filigree ( Cuttack )

The most unique and finest handicraft of Odisha named Tarakasi is a kind of silver filigree work famous in the Cuttack city. This highly skilled art form is more than 500 years old and is carried out excellently by the local artisans. Besides the regular shops that sell varied designs of silver filigree work, one can even have a glimpse of this extraordinary creativity during the festival of Durga Puja!


4.Applique work ( Pipili)-

 

Pipli is best known for its Applique work and slightly over an hour's drive from Bhubaneswar. U take a slight diversion from the national highway into the village. Road is full of shops. Applique is a French term, is a technique by which the decorative effect is obtained by superposing patches of coloured fabrics on a basic fabric, the edges of the patches being sewn in some form of stitchery.


 

 5.Black stone sculpture ( Khiching)-

 

One of the highly famous crafts is the black stone sculpture art of Khiching in Mayurbhanj district that occupies a special place for its rich legacy and royal past. Khiching is also known for its magnificent temple of Maa Kichakeswari Devi which drags a lot of tourists as the temple is built completely in black stone and embellished with beautiful designs that are one of its kind in the state!
